Program Notes

I. Fantasia:

The First movement of my Symphonic Sketches opens with a grand tutti opening built on a simple harmonic progression, setting the foundation for the musical narrative. In shaping this movement, I was inspired by the cinematic sound world of composers like Max Steiner, Erich Korngold, and John Williams. I combined lyrical romantic themes with expansive, soaring melodies, aiming to capture both structural clarity and emotional intensity.

II. Hallucinations:

The second movement is written in a contemporary style and built on a haunting yet simple flute motive, combined with artificial harmonics in the strings. By experimenting with rhythm and harmony and creating a vast landscape of timbral colors, I use Hallucinations to link the outer cinematic movements with a dreamlike, almost nightmarish state.

III. Finale:

For the third movement, I drew inspiration from Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, and David Conte in composing this lively orchestral Finale. Structured in a simple three-part form, it features a fast tutti section with rapidly shifting meters that create a dance-like energy, contrasted with a lyrical woodwind melody in the middle section.
