Daniel Strebulaev is a composer whose work explores the connection between music, storytelling, and human experience. Working across orchestral symphonic music, chamber music, ballet, and visual media, Daniel creates compositions that combine styles ranging from classical and romantic to contemporary expression.
/ Symphonic works:
Daniel’s orchestral work Symphonic Sketches was performed by the San Francisco Civic Orchestra in 2025. His composition The Night in Lisbon: Fantasia Symphonia, inspired by Erich Maria Remarque’s novel The Night in Lisbon, received the 2025 Pacific Music Society and Foundation Composition Competition award.

He had the privilege of performing Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor with David Chan (Concertmaster, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra) and Rainer Eudeikis (Principal Cellist, San Francisco Symphony). He played Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto with Orchestra delle Cento Città at Music Fest Perugia, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12 with the Moscow Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Palo Alto Philharmonic. / Music for Media
As a child, Daniel was mesmerized by music in films. He analyzed scores of John Williams, Erich Korngold, and Ennio Morricone. The love for film music introduced him to the world of composition. In composition, he began by self-studying orchestration books of Rimsky-Korsakov and Adler. Daniel entered the pre-college program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and began studying composition with Professor David Conte, the chair of the composition department. At the moment, he has already composed scores for two short films and hopes to work on many more in the future.
